Major Forest Fire on 11th July 2023

On Tuesday, 11th July 2023, we were called to an alarming mission at 3:48 PM: A "B2 large open area" alarm prompted an immediate response. However, the situation quickly escalated when the alarm level was raised to "large forest fire." Forest areas and adjacent fields were engulfed in flames, affecting an area of approximately 10 hectares.

Upon our arrival, we immediately began firefighting operations. Collaborating with the district leadership of the Schwandorf County Fire Inspection, we organized multiple sections to effectively combat the fire.

The remarkable aspect of this operation was the impressive collaboration between us, the local firefighters, and the regional emergency response teams, along with the invaluable support from local farmers. But that's not all – to tackle this major blaze, we also received aerial support from the police, with two helicopters.

For our city of Nittenau and us as dedicated volunteer helpers, this mission was undoubtedly a significant challenge, requiring extraordinary commitment. Thanks to our excellent teamwork and tireless efforts, the damage was successfully contained.

We fought relentlessly against the flames for over seven hours, and finally, with a sense of accomplishment, we returned to our fire station, having restored full readiness.

We, the Nittenau Fire Department, extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers and supporters involved. Without the seamless cooperation and robust assistance, we wouldn't have been able to bring the fire under control and minimize the damage. This stands as an impressive example of teamwork and dedication in our community!
