On Saturday, August 5th, 2023, at 1:34 PM, the Emergency Dispatch Center Amberg requested our assistance in a large-scale search for a person to support the police. In the Nittenau area, there is a unified operational plan for such scenarios, which we followed step by step.
Upon the arrival of the first response vehicles at the Schönstattzentrum staging area, we took temporary command with our multipurpose vehicle. This command was smoothly handed over to the Local Incident Management Support Group of Schwandorf District later on.
Together with numerous firefighting colleagues, we searched the surrounding forested areas, as well as several farms and field barns. The search teams were aided by a variety of search dogs and their handlers. Additionally, aerial and aquatic efforts were made to locate the missing individual. Drones from the Bruck i.d.Opf Volunteer Fire Department and the Pilsheim Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a police helicopter, were deployed.
With the support of the Water Rescue unit, various ponds and lakes were searched underwater, and our Regen River was explored from boats. Unfortunately, the search had to be discontinued in the late evening hours. However, the missing person was found safe and sound during the following week.
We would like to express our gratitude to all the personnel from the emergency organizations for the seamless and excellent collaboration. Special thanks go to the Care Support Units (SEG Betreuung), who provided outstanding care for the responders in this case.
